School Story:

I transferred to Fairfleld High after growing up in the Air Force. Entering High School was a struggle since most everyone had grown up together and acceptance of "outsiders" was not the popular thing to do.

I did make a lot of friends, many that were raised in the Air Force since we had such similar interests; like not being able to have a friend for more than 2 years because our Dad was transferred, not having a place to call home, or bedrooms we could paint because the houses belonged to the base and not us, and because we had to move every couple of years.

The hardest part of the high school experience, was my dad passing away right before I started my Freshman year. Thank God for Mary Jane Watkins, Karen Belcher, Judi Fournier and Sherri Davis for getting me away from the house and my mom, or I might not have survived.

The next most difficult thing, although it happened after high school, was when my high school sweetheart, Mel Hoffman was murdered as a result of drugs.

I loved writing the "Fairfield Footnotes" for the Daily Republic because it got me out of school early and into school functions free with a "press pass". I loved being part of a class instrumental in changing dress code for the females, cutting school to go to the lake, to the pool hall in town and out by Travis, hitching to Berkely and San Franciso for the day.
