Doug Banks - Class Of 1970

Douglas Banks

Aug. 10, 1952 — June 25, 2021

Douglas Alton Banks, ‘Mr. Lucky,’ 68, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 25, 2021, at CHI St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, North Dakota, with his children by his bedside, after a very sudden, brief illness.

Douglas was born on Aug. 10, 1952, in Rector, Arkansas, to David Banks and Viva June Banks. David, looking for more entrepreneurial opportunity, moved his family to Fairfield, California, when Douglas was five years old.

David began his own construction and concrete business, and Douglas learned the art and skills of building homes, roads and creating beautiful concrete designs alongside his father from a very young age. Douglas loved to recall and tell stories of the days he and his beloved ‘pappy’ would work together on projects and the camaraderie they shared.

At around 20 years old, Douglas joined Solano Concrete (now Rinker) driving a concrete mixer truck, and worked loyally for 30 years as well as working his own concrete side business, D.A. Banks & Sons Construction.

Anyone who knew Doug, knew he lived out that Southern hospitality. Always willing to lend a hand, help with a project and bring positivity and laughter to every situation. He loved old collector cars, guitars (pronounced GEE-tars in Mr. Lucky language), Jesus and spending time with his grand young-ins.

Douglas loved old-time rock and roll and played in several bands throughout his life, most recently with Senior Edition. Within the last year, he took to teaching guitar lessons to a few friends whom eventually became like family.

After retirement, Douglas devoted many years to studying the life of Jesus and reading his Bible daily. In the final hours of his life, Douglas joyfully came into the family of the Catholic Church, receiving the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, First Holy Communion and Anointing of the Sick by Father Joshua Ehli.

He is survived by his children, Brandon Banks, Krystle Hansen (Tom), and Kirstin Banks; grandchildren, Catherine and Anastasia Hansen; siblings, David Anthony Banks, Cheryl Banks Jones and Vivian Banks White; as well as several other cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, Viva June Scott and David Banks; and long-standing love of his life, Julie Cain.

A memorial for family and friends will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 2021, at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge, 77 Marina Center, Suisun City, California. A private Catholic burial will take place at Rockville Cemetery where Douglas will be laid to rest alongside his mother, Viva June.
