Mrs. Margaret Lewis (Home Economics)

From the Daily Republic

May 28, 1922 — July 11, 2014

Margaret Lewis passed away peacefully on July 11, 2014, after a lengthy illness. She was a resident of Solano County for 60 years, having moved to Suisun Valley from San Fernando Valley in 1954 and then to Fairfield in 1972.

Margaret Beeson Lewis grew up in Santa Ana, Calif. She attended junior college there, then received her teaching credential from Santa Barbara State College, with a bachelor’s degree in home economics.

She married Lloyd Lewis in June, 1942 and they resided in Southern California before moving north to Suisun Valley, where they enjoyed fruit ranching and teaching. Margaret taught junior high school in Napa before serving as chairwoman for the home economics department at Fairfield High School. She was a member of Suisun Valley Farm Bureau, Retired Teachers, Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames, UDC, UMW, University Society, and Monday Morning Breakfast group.

Margaret is survived by daughters, Carole, Linda and Beverly; grandchildren, Gregory, Teresa, Rowan and Robin; along with several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Her husband of over 50 years predeceased her in January 1993.

At her request, there will be no memorial service. Instead, she would like people to spend time with family and friends, or helping someone in need.

Donations may be made in her name to Meals on Wheels, where Margaret volunteered for many years, or to a charity of your choice.

Her goal was “Try to leave the world a little better than the way you found it.” She was an inspiration to all who knew her and she will be missed.
