In Memory

Dennis Boyd - Class Of 1971

From The Vacaville Reporter

Dennis Ray Boyd

July 9, 1953 - June 11, 2009

Dennis "Red" Ray Boyd was a lifelong resident of Fairfield.

After a courageous eight-year battle with pulmonary fibrosis, Dennis passed away peacefully at NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield on the morning of June 11.

Dennis was born and raised in Fairfield, and he graduated from Fairfield High School in 1971. He was a hard-working union carpenter for Local 180. He devoted many restless hours as a lifetime volunteer firefighter with the Suisun Fire Protection District.

He was one of two children born to Orval Boyd and the late Cleo Cullum-Boyd.

Dennis will forever be remembered by his beloved daughter, Lauren Boyd, who has proudly followed his lead in the public safety field. He leaves behind his devoted companion, Barbara Renaud; cherished dog, Abby; brother, Ronald Boyd; ex-wife, Nancy Boyd; treasured nephews, Daylin and Tayton Boyd and their wives, Pam and Carrie Boyd; treasured niece, Dema Vidal and her husband, Rafael Vidal; great-nieces and great-nephews, Syris, Evelyn, Aiden, Zach and Avery Boyd, Rafael Jr. and Elijah Vidal; as well as countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know him. A gracious thank-you goes to the Solano County firefighters, who have become an extended family.

Dennis was one of the good ol' boys. He was destined to be an outdoorsman. He loved hunting, ranging from small fowl to large game. He also enjoyed fishing. Sharing a good laugh with friends and family had always been a favorite pastime. Helping his daughter Lauren with FFA made him so proud. He was proud to be one of the biggest Raider fans anyone has ever met. He was a proud upstanding American, who was always ready to help anyone in need. Dennis touched the lives of many people. With more than 55 years of his community work, he maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end.

Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral in celebration of Dennis Boyd's life at 11 a.m. Friday, June 19, in Saint Mark's Lutheran Church, 1600 Union Ave., Fairfield.

A graveside service will follow at Rockville Cemetery, 4219 Suisun Valley Road, Fairfield.

The family requests all donations in lieu of flowers be dropped off at any Chase Bank (Account No. 3184535191) to be donated in memory of Dennis to the Northern California Burn Foundation.

Dennis: I remember you very well and you made a very strong impression on me. Rest my friend as we are all destined for eternal peace sometimes. I know my time will be here before too long buddy, but I am enjoying every moment of life I can savor.
