Chandra Myrick (Peterson) - Class Of 1968

From The Daily Republic

Chandra Peterson

March 19, 1950 — June 26, 2015

Chandra Kathleen Myrick Peterson, with angels all around her, passed over after a cerebral hemorrhage, leaving behind many who feel the loss including her parents, Wayne and Mazie Myrick; her husband, Bob Peterson; five children, Michael (Kim), Lisa, Ross (Tiffiny), Todd James (Candice) and David; six grandsons; three granddaughters; sisters, Karla Myrick Fillion and Patricia Myrick; brothers, John Myrick and Wayne Myrick; numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

Chandra was born in Lone Pine, California, attended schools in Independence and Fairfield, where she took many honors and was a member of the first graduating class (1968) of Fairfield High. She attended U.C. Davis on a full scholarship and went on to attend Sacramento State completing multiple majors.

From there she followed her heart to New Mexico where she raised her family, was active in the community, church and school and served on State Educational boards. When the children were older she commuted 125 miles three times a week to the University of New Mexico where she earned her Masters degree in Education excelling in all of her classes.

Chandra had a great love for children and was dedicated to educating them so they could achieve their goals. She turned many young lives around teaching in the special education field, particularly working with incarcerated and under achieving youths. She also tutored many young people, bringing them from near failure to honor roll students.

She returned to California to take care of her favorite aunt who was suffering from terminal cancer and remained to live out her last years in Galt. Her dedication to and love for her family was known to all who knew her and she will long be remembered for her ability to inspire children to love learning.

A life-long Methodist, her celebration of life will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday July 2, 2015, at the Galt Methodist Church, Sixth and C Street, Galt, California. All are invited.

Chandra will be missed very much. We were a small class but so many of us hung around together. Chandra, Cindy, Cora , Lynne, Phyllis , myself. We would all hang out after football and basketball games.we got into our share of trouble but never got caught and it was all fun. We would disconnect the speedometer on Cora's car so her parents didn't know how far we went, Chandra and I would push the  comet Cindys parents had so she could get it started. Cindy  and I would go over ano wake Chandra up after her parents were asleep and we would go cruising. Then there was Lake Berryessa. Everyone that knew Chandra will miss her. She was a gift to everyone that knew her. She will be missed. Prayers to her family.
